Hi there everyone,
It’s summertime here in Florida, and the hot days can make you feel lazy, but as usual, it’s been a full few weeks here at Voice Aerobics — lots of writing, lots of thinking, and a few conversations with patients that stuck with me long after they left the treatment room. Here’s what’s been on my mind lately, and on the blog.
🔊 Hi-VOLT® Feedback for Your Voice: Time to Rev Up Your Engine!
Ever glance at your speedometer and realize you were going faster than you thought? The same thing happens with voice loudness in Parkinson’s — patients often tell me their soft voice feels “loud enough,” and when I cue them louder, it feels “too loud.” It’s not effort, it’s a breakdown in internal feedback — and it’s exactly why I created the Hi-VOLT® Voice-on-Light bracelet.

💬 “He Mumbles.” “She Can’t Hear.” What Parkinson’s Does to Communication
If you’ve ever sat across the dinner table from someone with Parkinson’s and found yourself leaning in, straining to catch every word — or you’re the one with Parkinson’s, working harder than anyone realizes just to get a sentence out — this one’s for you.

💭 “Sufferer.” “Victim.” Words That Erase the Person Behind the Diagnosis
A friend of mine recently told me her two-year-old had just been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and it got me thinking about the words we reach for around diagnoses — and what those words quietly do to the person wearing them.

Hello Lee and thank you for your email. Unfortuantely, I am not aware of an app currently available that is able to transcribe wispered speech into audible voice. I am sure that it is in the pipeline, particularly for individuals with neurogenic disease diagnosis such as PD, ALS, or post head-neck cancer who may be unable to generate voice above a whisper. There are ome speech to text apps, such as Speech Assistant, which are quite good, depending on your wife’s motor ability to access a tablet.I imagine you have already tried a personal voice amplifier. Of course, they will still only amplify the whispered voice not turn it into “true voice”, but nevertheless, I have had patients with severe dysphonia/aphonia from vocal fold paralysis who found they provided some help. If that is something you are interested in exploring, there are many options on Amazon and I can provide you with a few suggestions of devices to try. If you are intereste din that information please reach out to me via mail: info@voiceaerobicsdvd.com
do you know of a device/program that will understand whispers, transcribe, or state verbally? It would probably be related to Whisper AI. Would really appreciate your help for my wife who has Parkinson’s. We can usually understand her so I would think a smart computer should be able to also. She is fully mentally alert and also uses a white board if we have a hard time with her verbal whisper. Thanks lee gast 941-924-2424 lee @leegast.com
