Scholarship2018-Jamie-DiSalvo, Nazareth College, NYThe Voice Aerobics® graduate student scholarship is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates character traits and intention to make a positive contribution to the field of Speech-Language Pathology.

The 2018 recipient is Jamie DiSalvo, a graduate student at Nazareth College, Rochester, NY.

A passion for learning and helping others are the forces that drew Jamie to the field of speech-language pathology, and she stated, “Positive influences from my past have drawn me to pursue a career which allows for teaching and helping to occur on a day-today basis.”

Jamie has already participated in a service learning trip to Ethiopia in partnership with Vision Global Empowerment, where she “aided in organizing language enrichment learning experiences for deaf children and put my passion into practice.”

Jamie was selected from a field of 100 scholarship applicants, many who described being drawn to the field of speech-language pathology because it blends the humanities with science, and every application included the stated desire to help others.

I want to thank every student who took the time to apply for the scholarship, and assure you, regardless the number of years you spend working in our field, you will never stop learning, and if your work is driven by a desire to help others, you will be forever fulfilled.

“The Voice Aerobics® student scholarship award was begun as a way of giving back to the profession that I love, to support clinicians who represent the future of the field, and as a way of affirming the continued success of my own business. Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit an application.”
