Voice Aerobics® is a 60-minute guided program that combines vocal function exercises with movement. The program was created in 1999, and was originally developed as an after-therapy class for people with Parkinson’s. But, the class became popular with others, including seniors, who were experiencing age-related changes to their voice.

Class members frequently asked me for a copy of the exercises, and so in 2009, a video recording of a class was recorded and became available for worldwide distribution. Since its creation, I have continued to offer Voice Aerobics to members of Parkinson’s Organizations around the country.

Although copies of the Voice Aerobics DVD are still available, since many people no longer use VCR or video players on their computers, the Voice Aerobics program is now available to download directly to your device, whether a computer, tablet or even your phone.

How Can You Benefit from Voice Aerobics® ?

The program is suitable for anyone who wishes to practice independently or in a group and strengthen their voice with focus on: Posture, Breathing, and Voice.

When participating in a live class, it typically takes people about three classes to learn the program. So, when using the program for the first time on your own, I suggest you use Part 1 (Breathwork©) approximately 2-3 times so that you become accustom to my teaching method.

Then, I suggest you use Part 3, (Cool Down) several times. You may want to combine part 1 and 3 for 27 minutes of practice.

Finally, use Part 2 (Power Up Your Voice). Once you are familiar with the whole program, you can mix and match the sections so that you are doing something at least 3 times per week.

Always check with your physician before beginning any exercise program.

Addendum: “People with Parkinson’s disease are more willing to participate in exercise programs that cost less, involve less travel, are supervised by qualified professionals with Parkinson’s disease expertise, and provide physical or psychological benefits.”

ref: People with Parkinson’s disease are more willing to do additional exercise if the exercise program has specific attributes: a discrete choice experiment. Serene S Paul et al., Journal of Physiotherapy, Volume 67, Issue 1, January 2021, Pages 49-55
